I did indeed mean Jack Daniels, and I should've been more clear except I was having Jack Daniels at the time. Thanks for your response Nick! It made my night.

The World is a dark and dangerous place - and yet, the World is still magnificent and Spring has come. Celebrate this moment when the Earth is green and the sky is blue; defiantly Dance in the joy of Spring, even in the face of death, because Life is will always win.

Wondering if you are familiar with the work of Thomas King, a Native Canadian author/historian. I stumbled across his writing shortly after reading your fine Gumption and it occurred to me that there was a kindred spirit afoot, such as in The Inconvenient Indian. I recommend it! P.S. Thanks for giving the word gumption some well-deserved exposure.

Nick - as a nurse, thank you for your continued commitment to the health of our communities. Several months ago, I discovered a PO box address on one of your websites, wrote a letter, and mailed it. I don't know what I really had in mind, other than to put it out there. Your post today really resonated with me, even though I'm a much greater geographical distance from a real-live war than Karl is. Regardless, it feels harder than ever to regain a sense of hope or positivity in the world, and your posts are part of the light leading the way.

Back in the day, people could go to hear philosophers lecture (as entertainment or to nurture their minds/spirits). Now, it seems one can only find this in churches or comedy shows. I know we have podcasts and plenty of online content, but connecting in-person with people locally just has a different feeling that's lacking online. Do you see a future in the return of lecturers or orators? If so, how can this be done outside the confines of an academic or religious setting, and in an accessible way for people from all walks of life? Thank you again, your content is soothing.

I like scotch. Laphroiag has been my ‘go to’ for years. Guess I’ll have to try your whiskey. Over the past few years, I’ve had to transition to a new lifestyle due to multiple sclerosis. I find the act of creating something, whether a table, painting, poem, etc., takes the load off of my mind. Plus, I focus on connections: spouse, kids, family, and friends. Also, I agree that Adam Scott’s performance on Severance is fantastic and deserving of praise.

Hi Nick, I am in a scotch whiskey society named after Brigadier General Lew Harned who, at the age of 97, is still tippling and telling stories. Lew, who served in WWII, the Korean War, and the Gulf War, first as an ambulance driver then later as a surgeon at a field hospital, recently had the opportunity to take several flights in a historic biplane with an open cockpit similar to the planes used during the war in the 40s. Watching Lew take flight, you could see the glee in his eyes and the joy in his heart. My question for you, Nick, is what manner of adventure would fill your eyes with glee and with whom would you share stories over a glass of scotch. Hey Nick, Krisy in Northeastern PA here

I am always glad to hear about people making things and creating art out of an almost rebellious response to stress and sadness.

Making It was my chemo show on Fridays last summer during breast cancer treatment. I would set up my Ipad and look forward to watching new episodes while I got my infusions. I was already a fan, but the show became a special treat for my heart that gave me a little boost just when I needed it. Thank you, and Amy, both for creating such a perfect thing.

I also really appreciate your love of nature and pursuit of understanding the world we live in. What's the strangest thing you've seen in nature? I'd love to hear your thought on things that are unexpected or unusual in the naturally occurring world and how we can encounter them.

I, and I assume other subscribers, have good reason to listen to you, even if it is mostly to confirm how we already think about the denizens of our spinning planet and the planet itself. Why do you think we think it is important to hear what you have to say? (By the way, a belly-to-belly suplex is a hug and it probably hurts more than a punch. For us pro wrasslin' types, you might have to specify what kind of hug you mean.) From the other end of the donkey....
