Nick - I’m a published humor author and I love reading your writing when I need a little funny inspo while in the trenches. My publisher even encouraged me to use fake endorsements for my second, based on your books. Just wanted to say thanks for mentoring me from afar!
Oh my goodness, what an honor to bring Wendell Berry's words to life in an audiobook. Thank you for sharing what's happening in your world. When I teach a long class, I finish the day completely drained. Drink plenty of water and rest your vocal chords, it looks like good work ahead. Thank you also for the recommendations. You do a stupendous job at pointing the way :)
Not a question, but 'Road Apples' made me think of a funny thing I was once told. A woman and her fella were driving through the countryside, along winding lanes and they came across a road sign which warned "Road Bears Left". She thought for a minute and then asked "Road bears? What the fuck are road bears???"
Hello Nick. As a proud owner of a Ron Swanson T-Shirt (but sadly not yet the proud owner of a Lagavulin Nick Offerman edition...) I was delighted to discover you on Substack. Loving Donkey Thoughts. Today's book recommendations excellent thank you very much. I have just started reading Wildland, by Evan Onos and thought I'd pass on the title in case you had not yet come across it.
YES! Book recommendations 🙃 Love is always the correct tool, wielded differently to the task at hand imo🍻 Thank you and read well! If it's possible, pace yourself. You will read for MANY hours, slow and steady.
I'm hungry for these kinds of books right now. Thank you so much for the thoughtful, heartful recs. I work in book publishing and know it takes a lot out of you to read for audio. Heck, even reading aloud on road trips takes it out of me. :) You have a wonderful, warm voice and delivery. I'm sure your loving appreciation of the author and his work will play through clear and sound.
Thank you for suggesting 'They Knew' by Sarah Kendzior. I think this will be the perfect audio book to get for my next road trip from Michigan to Minnesota for a Mayo Clinic visit......
Eva from Astoria, NY here. Thank you for the book recommendations. I have enjoyed and appreciated your previous recommendations and was eager for more. This post alone makes my subscription worthwhile. Everything from here on out is gravy.
That being said, please continue to give book recommendations. 😉

Road Apples is of course also the name of a classic 1991 Tragically Hip album, good call.
